A BOP might include the following:

  • General Liability
  • Workers’ Compensation
  • Business Property
  • Business Interruption
  • Inland Marine
  • Commercial Umbrella
  • Professional Liability
  • Cyber Liability

Business Auto

Whether your business has one vehicle or a fleet of 50, Beck Insurance will ensure you have the proper coverage. Following the Michigan No-Fault law, business auto insurance covers liability for drivers and property damage for all of your company’s on-the-road vehicles, as well as employee-owned vehicles used for business purposes.

Michigan No-Fault Insurance is required by law. The basic No-Fault policy you must purchase has three parts:

  1. Personal Injury Protection (PIP), which covers medical expenses and loss of income
  2. Property Protection (PPI), which covers damage done by your vehicle to other people’s property
  3. Residual Liability Insurance – Bodily Injury and Property Damage, which protects an insured person from being sued as a result of an auto accident, with the exception of a few specific situations.

Basic No-Fault Insurance does not pay for physical damage to your company-owned vehicles. Beck Insurance will help you determine the sufficient amount of coverage needed to cause the least disruption to the daily operation of your business.

Workers Compensation

If you have employees, then you probably need a workers’ compensation policy. Unlike other types of insurance, workers’ compensation rules vary from state to state. Michigan law requires all employers to provide workers’ compensation benefits, either by purchasing insurance or by obtaining state-approved self-insured status. Under this status, the employer maintains its own fund from which it pays workers’ compensation benefits. Workers’ compensation provides coverage to your employees for work-related injuries or illnesses. It provides the following benefits:

  • Hospital and medical expenses to diagnose and treat injury or illness
  • Disability payments while unable to work

A workers’ compensation policy also protects you as the employer by preventing an injured worker from suing you for pain, suffering, and lost wages.

General Liability

Although it’s not required by law, all businesses, including home-based businesses, should have general liability insurance.

General liability insurance protects you, your business, and your employees from third-party claims involving bodily injury or property damage. This policy also protects you against claims of libel or slander.

In many business situations, you may be required to have general liability insurance before entering into a contract with an individual or another business.

Beck Insurance will help you determine what level of general liability coverage you need.

Cyber Liability

In this age of technology, nearly every business obtains some type of personal information electronically from their clients.

Your business has a responsibility to ensure that your clients’ personal information is safe and secure. Cyber liability insurance protects your business from risks due to hackers or other criminal activities resulting in a data breach. Coverage includes notification of clients, credit monitoring, losses due to identity theft, and fines or penalties imposed by state regulators.

This policy also covers liability arising from website media content and property exposures from:

  • Loss or destruction of data
  • Computer fraud
  • Funds transfer loss
  • Cyber extortion
  • Business interruption

Beck Insurance will ensure that you and your clients are covered in the event of a cyber-attack.

One out of five small businesses will face employment charges arising from employees suing you. If you have employees, your business is at risk for employment claims, which can be potentially costly for a small business.

Employment practice liability insurance covers your business for the following types of claims from employees or former employees:

  • Discrimination
  • Harassment
  • Retaliation
  • Wrongful termination

This insurance is not required by law, but Beck Insurance will help your explore how this policy can benefit your business.

Professional Liability

Also known as Errors & Omissions or malpractice insurance, professional liability insurance goes beyond a general liability policy to cover mistakes that might occur as you conduct business. If your business relies on your expertise, such as doctors, lawyers, accountants, consultants, and others, you’re likely required by law to carry professional liability insurance.

Professional liability insurance will cover the following types of claims:

  • Negligence
  • Misrepresentation
  • Violation of good faith
  • Fair dealing

Even if it’s not a requirement, Beck Insurance can help determine whether you would benefit from professional liability coverage.

Inland Marine

While the name might be misleading, don’t let inland marine insurance confuse you. Going beyond your standard property insurance policies, inland marine insurance covers your moveable property, wherever it’s located. (The name inland marine is a historical term that has evolved over time, referring to the equipment and tools “floating” from job to job.)

An inland marine policy can cover a variety of items against damage or loss, such as:

  • Various hand and power tools
  • Truck cargo
  • Construction equipment
  • Moveable property including bridges, television or radio towers, etc.

Inland marine policies also offer legal liability exposures of bailees – organizations or people who have temporary custody of someone else’s personal property (i.e., jewelers, parking valets, seamstresses, dry cleaners, etc.).

Beck Insurance will help you identify if you need inland marine insurance based on daily operations of your business.

Commercial Umbrella

While we hope it never comes to be, commercial umbrella insurance will protect your business on the worst day you could ever have. Umbrella insurance provides you with additional layers of coverage, which extend liability limits from $1 million to $10 million, if your other policies’ liability limits have been exhausted in a lawsuit.

Beck Insurance will help you determine what amount of coverage you’ll need to protect your business assets.
